Startup Spritzer #39: AUT – SLO

The 39th Edition of our Startup Spritzer was everything but ordinary. For the first time we had our Slovenian neighbours over to join the “pitchfest” happening every month at the Spacelend Co-working Space*. We wanted to cooperate with PODIM Conference and Start:up Alpe Adria for some time now and finally made it happen.

The startup-community of Graz as well as our Slovenian guests enjoyed the event and used the chance to connect with each other. After the IdeenTriebwerk Graz, PODIM and Start:up Alpe Adria introduced themselves, two success stories – an Austrian and a Slovenian one – told us what they’re all about. On the Austrian side the double rotation turbine by doro and on the Slovenian side 3D Survey, an image processing software for land survey specialists.

 Die Startups haben begeistert

daibau (MojMojster) want to connect craftsmen with people who need them and simplify communication between the two. QBot is a 3D CNC milling machine, which can be used on metals, synthetics and wooden materials. Unibright is a framework to help companies to use blockchain technology for their businesses. They claim that coding skills are required. Unibright also creates Smart Contracts for different blockchains automatically. The Slovenian app spamatch wants to optimize the process of scheduling beauty treatments, such as manicures, or hair and make-up appointments.

Afterwards, a few newcomers to the start-up world had the chance to pitch their ideas. These Austrian Startups were all part of the Crowd Academy. The Crowd Academy offers creative minds to develop a crowdfunding campaign for their ideas or projects from scratch. This happens over the course of five weeks, with the chance to participate in various workshops to help you perfect your campaign. Homefarmer, Wesual, Aurox and Marry pitched their concepts as a part of the Crowd Academy in February 2018.

Nach den Pitches der Startups gings ans Networken

Many organizations, who want to help and connect Startups also presented their purpose.  Female Founders, for example, “is an initiative to support ambitious women during their rollercoaster ride of entrepreneurship through networking, mentoring and mutual exchange.” Right now they are looking to expand to the South Austria, as well as the Slovenian and Croatian region with Female Founders South. Up To Eleven is a Company Builder for mobile Startups. They provide their Startups with the necessary know-how to grow and use their full potential. IGSF (Interdisziplinäre Gesellschaft für Sozialtechnologie und Forschung) conducts surveys, interviews focus groups and creates opinion polls for businesses and organizations.

After this bulk of presentations everyone was looking forward to the networking part of the event. Our guests were especially impressed by this format. “Having timed pitches and an audience voting is a cool idea”, says Urban Lapajne (PODIM Conference). Also, the balance between Startups and Organisations, who want to support the Startups was well received by the audience.

Big thanks to Start:up Alpe Adria, City of Graz: Department for Economic and Tourism development, AustrianStartups, Energie Steiermark, Up to Eleven, Steiermärkische Sparkasse, Science Park Graz, Centre of Entrepreneurship of the University of Graz, SFG, Junge Wirtschaft Steiermark and Podim Conference for your support
